I Missed an Entire Month!!

IMG_8674

Yes.. I didn't blog for an entire month.

A whole stash of photos from February to March are still waiting for me to process...

I was a little lazy but also was caught up with some stuff at work which for some reason now, doesn't really need my attention anymore. So, will have to realign my priorities. One of it is to get back to taking care of me and spending more time with my camera. ;-)

Another is to think about getting all my certifications done.

Anyway, will share more in the coming posts. One of it was the major disappointment I encountered on last Friday which had me going for some minor retail therapy over the weekend...

1, 2, 3, 4

Hello all!!!

Yes.. I've been rather quiet lately. I've been going to the gym lately and when I get home, I'm usually quite tired to blog or edit my photos.

Anyway, I heard this song on the radio and it has stuck in my head ever since. Such a lovely song, I think I would like to dedicate it to you all!!

P/S: Wait for the end of the song.. It's so sweet...

Delayed Publishing

Hate to use a techie term but I've finally figured out Blogger's "delayed publishing", in the sense that I've figured out Blogger's Post Options for a blog entry.

"Delayed publishing" is perhaps a feature in most publishing systems, where you may want to delay the release or publishing of an article or item to a future date even when the article or item has been created completely.

The reasons why this feature is set so that you can have some sort of scheduled release of articles without manually having to do it. Basically, the system where you publish your article in is smart enough to delay the publishing based on a set date and time.

This is different from drafts where your article is not at the completed stage and hence, even when you save your article, it would not publish until you hit the publish button. And, if the schedule is set right, the article would be published at the preset date and time.

Sorry for being so techie... The curse of working in the ECM (Enterprise Content Management) and Portal space for the past few years...

Anyway, I've tried this option previously and it didn't work out. After I hit the "Publish Post" button, the article was published anyway, displaying the future date and time correctly but in reality, the article wasn't supposed to be published yet.

1. First Things First..
If you expand the Post Options link a the bottom of the editor in Blogger, you are able to set the Post date and time of your entry.

Click the image for a bigger view

2. Set the Post date and time
Set the date and time to the future date. For example, if I wish to have this article published on 4th July 2009, I'll set it based on the date format configured.

The tricky bit is for time, as it follows the 24-hour format, which means 12am is actually 00:00, while 7:00pm is actually 19:00

Once all of this is set, just hit the Publish Post button like you normally do, sit back and relax. ;-)

Oh yeah... Blogger will indicate to you that the article's publishing will be scheduled...

Hope the tip helps. BTW, did you know that this article's publishing was scheduled too... (^_^)

Short Update

My blog started to be an embarrassment with all that Christmas deco still up. And so, have taken it down.

I've not edited my new template and done up a new blog banner as I'm busy with work. So, have decided to revert to 2008's design. LOL.

Anyway, hope that the first full working/studying week of the year has been good to ya!!

Slow Start for 2009

I'm still Christmas mood... If that is what my blog is saying... LOL!

6 days into the new year and I've yet to change my blog template. It has been pretty hectic so far as I'm in a critical project which will take me some time away from my blog for a while.

Nevertheless, when this blog comes back, the layout will be a bit better. Hopefully in 2009, the contents of the blog will be an improvement from last year's. We've always got to strive for the better than to just be content with our current achievement.

So, what is my main resolution/goal for 2009? Pretty simply, its to live the best life I can (to borrow from Oprah's Best Life Week... kekeke)
  1. I'll go to the gym as often as possible - 3 times a week but will see how I can bump it up to 4 times in spite of the busy schedule.
  2. I'll try to get some more IT certifications - it's been a few years since I've taken any certification papers. Work experience is better but sometimes, you need a piece of paper to back up your skills. ;-)
  3. Be more patient, stay cool under fire - 'Nuff said.
I didn't put any dates yet but I will soon. No point setting lofty goals if you're not going to acheive it by a certain date, right?

Why I Beloggg....

A while back, Lilian ran a contest to "Go Dot Com". The contest is to blog about "why blogging is beneficial". This is my *ahem* attempt.

I started back in 2003, when one random stranger chat me up on YM in regards to technology and he introduced me to a website (yeap, it was called that back in the day) and it was a collabo between himself and some friends.

It was a good website, talking about life in KL and etc, which was good - since it gave people outside M'sia about the life in general for the average M'sian on the street. You don't get those rose-tinted, perfume-scented, wrapped up in a nice package you might envision if you're on some travel tour or something.

So, I started to "blog". I wanted to talk about alot of stuff, typically ranting on bosses, and life in general.

I took a hiatus from blogging as I didn't know what else to talk about and besides, I had to focus on being a modern slave. That was 2003.

However, come 2006 onwards, blogging took an entire different turn. People started to talk about everything from pets, cooking, parenting and even about their diseases. Not to mention, blogs caught the eyes of marketing folks and now, people are indulging in PPP and etc. That's great 'coz what was a journal-like website became something which can churn a little bit of $$$ on the side for some folks.

I don't condemn PPP but sometimes when it is stuck in a personal blog, it looks a bit "funky".

I got back to blogging when my first dog Oofy died - a huge outpour of emotion came out. A lot of folks dropped by and offered support, which was what I needed and I found a whole new group of people who shared a passion for animals and pets.

Soon after, I had another dog and decided that I would blog about her antics. Then, I realized that blogs can give some folks joy especially for those who don't have pets but yearn for them too.

One of my previous posts showed support for "Free Burma", when all blogs were asked to join in the support for Burma.

So, blogs have now become a platform for people to voice out their support and grouses, to champion for something. And I'm not just talking about the political blogs out there. There are blogathons to champion for a worthy cause such as pledging donations for charities such as Breast Cancer Awareness (for this month) and Saving the Environment.

Certainly, the role of blogs have evolved from what was termed as a website, to personal journal to e-marketing tool and a means to spread information in regards to an issue or event.

I'm just blabbering here... But I can certainly see that blogs are here to stay. It is a powerful tool and like a very wise playwright has said many centuries ago, "The pen is mightier than the sword" rings very true in the modern age of bits and bytes.
