A small site about someone who has a habit of writing long-winded essays about a gazzillion things from software engineering/methodology to food and culture. It tends to be a little hyper and hence, sometimes, we chase our own little "tails".

Diet & Exercise - Linked Soo Closely...
Just a quick post since I've got to start studying some stuff soon.
Over the weekend, I caught up with my mates whom I've not seen in a while. One of whom I've not seen even before the event of 21-Oct-2009.
I was shocked to see my friend lose so much weight in the span of 3-4mths!! She was on some liquid diets and did manage to lose quite a bit of weight but I think she found it hard to lose the 5kg or so to reach her ideal weight.
Then, she started to work out at home on her treadmill and now is about 1kg away from her goal weight. Back in uni, she was a little chubby and had lost quite a bit of weight by sleeping the entire day - essentially skipping most of her meals.
Well, I'm also happy to report that I've lost some more weight too, i.e. I think I may have dropped a couple of kgs too. It's linked to my diet, medication & exercise. Ever since I've cut away about 99% of sugar from my diet, every thing seems to be better.
However, I still have a little bit of high blood pressure despite me cutting off a lot of salt from my diet. The most difficult part is to have a balanced meal when we're not at home, especially when you're out with friends or colleagues. I've tried to ask the hawker or waiter to help me ask the cook to prepare my food with less oil and salt to much avail. Sometimes it works, most often times it doesn't.
Seems that oil & salt are "cheap" for these restaurants/hawkers? Hey... I'm still paying the same price despite them putting less "ingredients" and that contributes to their bottom line & they still don't want to do it??
Anyway, I'm still on my diet & exercise regime. My exercise is getting a bit more intense after my doctors gave me the green light. My strength training has been slow as I've got to start all over again on building them muscles...

World Diabetes Day
14th November is World Diabetes Day.
The reason why I'm blogging about this is because my mother's sister suffers from Type 2 Diabetes. We don't have any substantial medical history if my mother's parents or other relatives suffers from the disease previously. So, when we heard that she had it, we were shocked.
A lot of folks do not realize the dangers of consuming too much refined sugars in our diet.
There are also alot of myths surrounding getting the disease such as "I'm thin, I won't get the disease" or "None of my family members had the disease and so, I won't get it."
Based on what I've read, it seems that researchers cannot pinpoint exactly why some adults will develop the disease despite being perfectly healthy and active. Of course, being overweight and not having a healthy lifestyle makes us more susceptible to developing the disease.
Some years back, my family discovered a book on the dangers of sugar and we started to cut back on our intake of processed foods. However, I've learned now that cutting back sugars is only 1 small part of the puzzle. The major part of the staying healthy is to be active, i.e. exercising.
My recent health scare has prompted me to take a more serious action on this as diabetes can cause many problems such as heart disease and kidney problems. Diabetes can also destroy nerves which leads to limb amputation and blindness. I learned that my blood sugar was a bit high and so, decided to learn more about this disease.
However, if you get diabetes, it does not mean that you'll need to have insulin injections. There is oral medication if you are found to be insulin resistant. That's why it is important to have a full medical check-up as the doctor would be able to prescribe the right therapy for you.
Besides that, getting diabetes also does not mean that your diet must be entirely sugar free. Diet changes should be to cut back on all foods with refined sugars such as white bread, sugar (obviously), soda drinks, anything which contains "corn syrup or high fructose syrup". Diabetics can still take sugars but in very very small amounts and less frequent as possible. Our bodies still need sugars as fuel.
Get your blood sugar checked. Prevention is better than cure...

Inner Peace
Friday is here!! Well, sort of... It is past midnight anyway.

Snoopy is the master of Zen...
Snoopy is the master of Zen...
I've mentioned in my last few posts that things have been hectic at work. Well, it can't be helped as I'm in the midst of a project.
There are some ups and downs but the important thing is, the entire team is in it together.
As such, within all the "madness" going around, I strive to search for that inner peace by just taking a deep breath from time to time. It is so easy to be overwhelmed.
One colleague practices deep breathing techniques in the morning before he comes into the office so that he can face the madness. It's actually a pretty good technique. I've neglected it for a while and now that the stress is starting to build up, it's time to get back to those exercises!
Besides that, spending a little time with God each day will help alleviate the stress too...

Did I Just Lose Another 2 Kg??
Snoopy looks a bit surprised... So am I...
This is rather shocking.. I just weighed myself and found out that I've lost about 2kg!!
Well, I didn't check my weight last week but I'd guess I was surprised that I dropped by 2kg this week, despite not going to the gym.
I've been quite strict with myself - no coffee or Milo at work. If I did take Milo, it was only one cup that week. Other than that, it has been nothing but green tea, hot water or natural fruit juices.
As for lunch, it is often a challenge to eat healthily. Most foods have a lot of salt, sugar or oils and to make the right choice is hard. If all your colleagues prefer to go to this chap fan (economy rice) where the foods are tasty but has a lot salt and oil, your choices are kind of limited. Of course, the best option is to pack your own food - that way, you control what you eat. But often, do we have the time or are we disciplined enough to prepare our food daily?
Besides that, no supper or any kind after 9:30pm. I have my dinners quite late due to work, but when I do have it, my portions are smaller and often have a lot of leafy green vegetables in it. I move around quite a bit after dinner and will go to bed 4-hours later. It's not good to sleep with a full stomach.
Perhaps my "recent" weight loss was that I managed to clean my bowels completely this morning? (^.^)
Anyway, this small win is a cause for celebration... BY GOING TO THE GYM TOMORROW!!!
With Christmas coming and the temptation to indulge in all foods very difficult to fend off; this season will be a testing one... So, stay strong! Stay fit! Choose the right foods! Be motivated to stay fit!!!!

Tapped Dry...
I'm really tapped out of ideas.
Not sure why my blog is really in a rut lately. I seem to be losing subscribers as seen in my Feedburner.. eep!!
I want to rant about stuff but can't seem to find the energy for it.
EV will say that I'm suffering from Mondayitis. It could be a bit true. Even watching some funny football antics at I'm On Setanta Sports did not help much.
Perhaps I need a nap.
Perhaps I need to binge on a bag of chips (uggghh), but after watching a 5-hour marathon of Dr Oz on Oprah on the Hallmark channel yesterday, I am compelled to eat more fruits, vegetables and do more exercise to get into shape. Note that when Dr Oz pulled out the "omentum" of a fat/obese person, I got really scared... and disgusted!!
OK OK... Maybe I need to spend some quality time at the gym. After all, I have missed my sessions for the past couple of weeks due to being sick.
I wanted to go shopping for Christmas stuff this weekend but traffic around the malls is just horrendous. And, we're supposed to be in recession, no?
Or, perhaps I can start thinking about some lens for my new camera? **Hint - Christmas pressie**
Oh well, at least a holiday is coming up next Monday. (^.^)

Anger Management and Merdeka Wishes
From my last post, you may think that I was really taking it too far.
Yeah, I nearly lost my head because I was stressed out over some massive jam. The truth of the matter was that I've been stressed out for a very long time now.
Ever since an announcement from the HQ that each profit center was to hit 80% utilization, I have been stressed out every week to try to hit those numbers. Sure, revenue collection is not part of my KPI (Key Performance Indicator) but cost recovery from utilization rate of each member in the team; including myself.
I know that I shouldn't let stuff like this get to me, but the pressure is just getting too much. Every week, we're been asked by the boss - "Do you know what happened last week?", i.e. do you know why your numbers are so fxxked up last week? Sometimes, out of anger, I would like to answer back - "Sure, YOU fxxked up the numbers because YOU didn't bring in the sales!". However, I keep this all repressed inside, waiting for the moment when I'm excused from the meeting.
I'm a technical team lead - which means, I lead my team in technical aspects of a project. Somehow, the term is being abused by management because we have the responsibilities as a manager but yet - not really having the title. In fact, I feel like a pseudo-manager all the time now.
Anyway, enough of that.
I had a small revelation while at church yesterday. It happened when I was listening to the church's 50th Golden Jubilee song. A sort of calm and peace came over me as I concentrated on the lyrics of the song. That the greatest celebration was The Word - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1)
It was as though I had been touched by God's finger, i.e. like being poked (not Superpoked! like in Facebook), nudged to return my focus to Him. Sure, the world could be really screwed up at times and it can take it's toll on us; but there is so much more to life, than just work.
With that, I have a renewed sense of self this Merdeka. Yep, that means I've got to take whole of my anger and turn it inside out. Laugh a bit more, learn to breathe more deeply - to calm the mind and also to eat right!!
I'm getting the exercise thing down - by trying to hit the gym at least twice a week - up to 2 hours per session; but food is my biggest downfall and brick wall. Well, right now I'm having my low-fat yogurt and apple and I am resolved to get the food part of my diet right. It's so hard when Malaysian food is soooo delicious and you need a lot of will power to resist the lovely char koay teow or that fatty piece of bak kut in the bak kut teh.
However, thinking of all the saturated oils just gives me the heebie jeebies now. Yeck!!
Snoopy celebrated her 5th birthday yesterday as well as our nation celebrated 51 years of independence. Both numbers are significant although one is larger than the other.
Just like Snoopy wishes for good things to come to her, I also wish for great things to come to our nation. Despite all the things which are happening now, we all wish and strive to make Malaysia the best she can be.
I pray that our leaders will wake up and remember that the job they took was provided by the rakyat. So, the rakyat is the boss.
I pray that our leaders will be granted the wisdom to lead the people and not lead their pockets.
I pray for continued peace amongst everyone.
I pray for the people of Sichuan, China who suffered another earthquake on Aug 31st.
That is my Merdeka wish. Happy Merdeka everyone!

Feels Good To Be Back At The Gym...
I've been sick for the last couple of weeks and that has wreaked havoc with my exercise routine...
So, on an advice of a new friend, she asked me to keep a journal of my exercise to keep me motivated with my weight loss and health program.
I joined the gym in July last year because my sis was getting married. So, I was quite excited when I started my sessions with my PT (Personal Trainer), who was pursuing her degree in Sports Science or Medicine at a local uni here. She was a state runner and was in peak condition. With her help, I managed to shed a few kilos and also discover that my right knee was problematic. :-P
All in all, I love the gym! I'm finding that I can do longer cardio sessions and am about to hit that golden number of 40 minutes of pure cardio.. :-P Of course, whenever I get the flu and my lungs get all so congested, I can't run on the cross trainer for more than 5 minutes........ (T.T) WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME ON TUESDAY!!!!!
Besides that, I love the weight training sessions as it's a chance for me to turn my oodles of fat into muscles. Kekeke.. It's a slow process but I just love it whenever I can slowly increase the weight on the triceps push-down so that I can feel the burn with each repetition. There's a certain sense of accomplishment whenever you can complete a set with a new weights on the machines..( ~.^)
There's also an added advantage. While working on my core and back muscles, I found out that while losing the fat, I didn't experience so much pain with my back anymore!! Of course, you must do these exercises in moderation...
Contrary to what people say, we gals will NOT grow big muscles like guys do because we don't have a high amount of testosterone in our bodies. So, what we'll get is well-toned, lean bodies. Think Jessica Biel in Blade:Trinity... >:)
So, what keeps me going?
Besides the sado-maso tendencies of "torturing" myself but funnily though, the more I work out, the more relaxed, happier and addicted I get! I used to be a sports junkie back in Uni, playing basketball with my mates about 3 times a week. Although I never got to become as good as Sakuragi Hanamichi (Slam Dunk), I loved the game.
Of late, I've also started to compile gym music to keep me going too. The concept is pretty much a cheap version of the Nike+ where you can wirelessly connect your ipod to this device in your Nike+ running shoe to play music, keep track of running stats while you exercise, i.e. walk. I got very close to getting it... So, instead of having an ipod, I got a Sony MP3 player and it's got all my favourite workout songs.
On my gym music list, my favourite songs so far in my large list of songs...
Don't know why but whenever I hear any of these songs, I try to push myself to work harder... In time, this list WILL continue to grow.. :-)
As a closing thought, I was browsing through Nike's website and came across some cool training videos of some athletes training. Some of the exercises I've done before with my PT and it certainly breaks the mundane run-on-the-threadmill and lift-weights-until-muscles-sore routines. Have a look.. --> http://www.niketraining.com.my
Yes.. Maria Sharapova's training videos are there.... *roll eyes*

Are You Honest?
This little thought occurred to me as I was going home after a great workout session at the gym on Wednesday.
Recently, this particular shopping complex has decided to change the parking rates from a per-entry charge to hourly rates. That means, staying any longer at this shopping complex is going to be more expensive!!
As I walked towards the parking lot, two businessmen walked behind me. I happened to pick up their conversation... Not that they were speaking softly either...
Businessman #1: Parking here is hourly now...
Businessman #2: Yeah.. RM1.50 per hour!
Businessman #1: Yeah but the gym here can stamp your ticket and give you RM3 flat rate.
Businessman #2: Ok...
Businessman #1: Come, let's go and get it stamped!
Businessman #2: But, we are not from the gym...
Businessman #1: Don't worry... We just go in......
I didn't care to listen any further.
Seems to me that I happened to run into a couple of "scrupulous" businessmen.
How many of you are really honest?
Would you try to manipulate the system to cater for your own "selfish" needs?

'Tis The Season To Get Fattyyyy...
Ahh... Christmas is indeed in the air.
I managed to capture a few photos while at a shopping mall tonight but am a little lazy to upload it. I'd guess I shall save the photos when I want to describe the amount of effort invested by some malls to entice shoppers to part with their hard earned $$$.
Anyway, it occurred to me that when Christmas comes around the corner, there are a few things we can't escape from. The eating, drinking and extensive merry-making we indulge ourselves during the festivities.
So, time to watch what we eat!! Although some of us are working our butts off at the gym to try to get ourselves to fit into a dress two sizes smaller than what we usually wear, it is during these festivities that the most "damage" occur. I'm finding myself getting tempted by the lovely chocs and Starbucks Toffee Nut Latte but have to admit, I can only take at most two out of this entire month!! It's too sweet for me! I'd rather go for something which tastes fruity sweet rather than sugary sweet.
Just remember to eat in moderation, and although that lovely chocolate fountain is calling you, try to remember how difficult it is to shed those pounds every year come Jan 1st. (^^)
Anyway, I know its very hard. But do try to keep yourself healthy by exercising and eating right?
Remember, the New Year is around the corner and its time to dust off the old Resolution List!!!

My Friday post is missing.... Hee Hee... Because I haven't had the time to write anything yet!!
Anyway, to many people, the weekend officially begins on Friday, after their office hour (i.e. 5:00pm, 5:30pm or 6:00pm...)
However, for me, my weekend this week officially begins when I reach home at about 8 or 9pm. (-__-)
Why?
I'm farking B U S Y...
Aside from the fact that I have to kow tow to my customer who is asking a lot of things from me, some of which is to deliver something next to IMPOSSIBLE (???), I have to setup a few slides for a training session on Monday.
The training session is OK, but that customer is just killing me. Anyway, I'll just "tahan" (persevere) until everything is over. I'm not looking forward to Monday. *sigh*
Isn't it strange that on a Saturday morning (it's 12:33am now) and I'm already starting to feel the Monday Blues???
Besides this, I'm also nursing my old injuries again. My knees are hurting again due to a pretty heavy workout a few days back. That sucks. It's back to the ice, compress and rest routine again. (-__-)
Well, looking at the bright side.; at least the server will be down during the weekend and I can't access my mail. Yay!! (But I'm only delaying the inevitable.....)
Hope your weekend turns out better than mine.

Extremely Tiring Weekend
First of all, Happy Halloween!!!! Of course, we don't "celebrate" Halloween officially in M'sia but am wishing it to all those who do...
I was away during the weekend for my company's team building event @ Genting. Nope, I DID NOT go up there to wish Uncle Lim bye-bye... -____-" However, the thought did occur to some of us. ^____^
The team building event was an event many of us looked forward to because not only we got to go somewhere on the company's expense but it gave us the chance to bond and socialize with our other colleagues whom we didn't necessarily speak to in the office during our regular workday. Certainly, this was the time we got to know people better. And it was fun!
I can't post all my 242 pictures in my blog, and so, I'll just post a few which were quite memorable. (^_^)
Day 1 Activities
- Some indoor games
- Walk-Hunt
- Night War Game
This is the clubhouse we go to when we have our indoor sessions, makan, etc...
I certainly enjoyed myself over the weekend. It was a lot of fun. I managed to interact with different people from the company and had plenty of laughs. There were a few funny videos being captured especially during the "Bollywood Dance" contest. Hahaahaha...
Besides that, underlying the entire weekend, we learned to communicate and work together as a group. We are all linked in a chain and when we're united, we're stronger! :-P

Day 2 was a lot more fun as it involved some outdoor stuff. I didn't participate due to a bad knee but managed to run around to take lots of photos. Hence the 200+ photos in my camera... (^_^)

I'm Finally Back At the Gym!!!
It is finally FRYYYYYYDAAAAYYYY...
My brain was officially fried today.
Anyway, I nearly didn't manage to get to the gym because there was all this chit-chat with some folks at the office. It's about "Sanctuary" and "Jungles"... Kekeke... *ahem*
Basically, the punchline was "Get pissed but don't get wet!" LOL!!!!!
I'm happy now that I'm back at the gym. Only managed to put in about 1.5hrs of work but then, I think that's enough to start my out-of-shape body back into the work-out regime.
Anyway, football is back and so is the rugby World Cup 2007 finals. I'm a bit sad ever since the Wallabiesto Jonny Wilkinson's foot. Good luck to the Roses. Hope that you folks will win the World Cup back-to-back with the help of Jonny Wilkinson's foot.
Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!

Weak At The Knees
It has been a while since I posted anything. It has been a pretty hectic weekend even though I was at home most of the time.
MU finally won their first match via Nani's great first goal.
Anyway, I had a pretty decent workout on Monday after taking a pretty long break as I had been a little sick and tired.
Somehow, I managed to hurt both my knees. :-(
So, after hobbling around a bit this morning, I had to get a bit of relief.
I got a couple of products.
1. Futuro Comfort Lift Knee Support
I decided to get this one as my left knee is weaker than my right one as I use my right knee alot. :-P
My left knee is hurting a little more as I was working it a bit harder in order to balance up the strength of both legs. My right leg is a lot stronger as I use it when I drive my car. LOL!!
It is kind of comfortable and offers a lot of support. However, it still does tend to bunch up if you sit too long. So, I had to spend some time to adjust it if I wear it under my clothes.
2. Scholl Pro Sport (Knee)
This product is useful since I also needed some additional support whenever I work out due to my weak left knee.
However, this product also has the tendency to bunch up at the knees too, making it very very uncomfortable at the thighs too. :-(
All in all, both products are pretty good for support purposes but I don't think I will wear it during the work day as it will bunch up and makes it kind of inconvenient for me to adjust the elastic support.
Meanwhile, I've told my trainer about my painful knees and she is asking me to observe it for a while. If this pain does persist, my workout routine will need to be changed.
Update:
Both products really do help as my pain has reduced to a very minor level and I have 90% mobility and strength in both knees. However, a cold/heat pack is useful to reduce swelling or pain in the knees. Worse case - go see a doctor about the pain.

Don't Have A Whale
Comic strip from Mutts by Patrick McDonnellHehehe, I just opened up my e-mail and got this little strip from my comic subscription. Hehehe.. Aside from the fact that I look like a whale now, I find that what the little crabby said is true. :P
It is funny as it reminded me of what I'm supposed to cut out from my diet, which is CARBS!!!!
So, what constitutes CARBs or Carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates (from 'hydrates of carbon') or saccharides (Greek σάκχαρον meaning "sugar") are simple organic compounds that are straight-chain aldehydes or ketones with many hydroxyl groups added, usually one on each carbon atom that is not part of the aldehyde or ketone functional group. Carbohydrates are the most abundant biological molecules, and fill numerous roles in living things, such as the storage and transport of energy (starch, glycogen) and structural components (cellulose in plants, chitin in animals). - Taken from Wikipedia.
Anyway, from a nutritional standpoint, carbohydrates provide the energy necessary for us to do work. However, if you do recall your high school science, excess carbohydrates will be converted into sugars and later fat deposits in your body.
Have you ever felt sleepy after taking a lot of rice during lunch? Well, that is because your body has been through a temporary "sugar high" after your body has absorbed too much sugar to convert it into glycogen (fats), leaving your blood with a low sugar level. You feel tired, fatigued and even sleepy. [source]
Hence, "carbs" are a dieters nightmare. Not only that, but I think the food pyramid taught in school is just all wrong. We should be taking less carbs and more fruits and vegetables instead. So, controlling carbs is everyone's nightmare now!! (^ ^)
However, when you are starting to work out. You might find that your trainers or some nutritionists who tell you that you still need some carbs in order to give you energy in your workout. This means that although we are encouraged not to take white rice, we are encouraged to take more cereals, unpolished rice and fibre in order to "fill-up" the stomach.
By the way, white bread is not good idea as it contains too much refined sugar which is tend converted into fat. It is better to take wholemeal/high fibre breads instead.
Anyway, I've been cutting out rice from my diet for the past 3 weeks and substituting it with a bit of pasta, and wholemeal breads.
What are the effects? I'm feeling lighter and more alert after lunch. If I do feel hungry, I take some fruits to feel full. However, I try to stay away from the very sweet fruits but opt for stuff like guava or apples. I've not tried taking green apples as my stomach tends to get very acidic after that.
Anyway, it is a battle but I hope that I can win the war. (^ ^)

Disappointed... Slightly
In one of my posts, I've related that I'm already spending about nearly 8hrs per week at the gym, working out.
Today, I had my measurement, a.k.a weight, BMI calculation and found out that I've not lost much.
Hence, I'm fxxking disappointed with myself.
Sh*t.
I've been working out since 23-July and today, all I can show is that I've reduced about 1.65kg and only 0.7% of body fat loss. I've attended about 7 sessions to date throughout the last 3 weeks.
WTF...
I'm fxxking pissed with myself.
I've been cutting off alot of things in my diet. So much that I've been thinking two or three times about what I put in my mouth.
However, I got to admit that I have been naughty too. My diet went haywire for the last couple of days as I went out lunch with colleagues and friends. So, it is my fault. It is hard to choose the right kind of food when you're out with friends. Anyway, most of them are pretty understanding - though I still didn't quite enjoy my b'day lunch this year as we had dim sum and we always tend to overeat when we have dim sum.
So, what did my trainer have to say? Work harder - push myself more on cardio and etc. I should be doing 2 hours full cardio per session on top of my training. Whoa. That means I'll be doing 12 hours a week!
Anyway, today's session was not so intense as I was fxxking tired. I've not been sleeping well for the past few days. Besides that, I was working out on an empty stomach. Not a good idea.
What's my action plan?
1. Change my diet even more drastically.
- Cut off my milo completely. I'll just have to make due with only 2 cups per month. I take it without sugar, but with 1/4 cup of low-fat milk.
- More greens, a bit of quality protein (lean meat with little oil) and no carbs (rice, pasta, bread)
- More quality fruits (not too high in sugar - durian is not a good fruit)
2. Work out more
- More ab crunches before bed and after I wake up.
- More movement-related exercises.
- Spend more time at the gym.
As of now, I have not seen even 1 roti canai for the past two months. Same with teh-tarik too.
The last time I had nasi lemak was last month and even then, I felt that it was already too much. (^ ^)
I only allow myself 1 nasi lemak per month.
I've already cut out salt and sugar from my diet. Even limiting myself to 2 cups of coffee per week. The rest of the time would be just water or green tea. Natural juices are ok too but nothing beats the real deal, i.e. fruit.
Don't even talk to me about chocs. The only choc I taste is in my milo.
*Sigh*. It is tough. But I have got to do it.
For those starting their diets and exercise plan. Let's not be demotivated with such slow progress. Who ever said that this was easy was fxxking out of their mind.

Saggy Skin??
EV READS MY BLOG!!!!
Wow, now that is no surprise.... **Remembers the fiasco**
Anyway, after my last post, she pointed out a particular paragraph where I said something about "sagging skin"...
EV: Sagging skin....
Me: ???
EV: You sure you can lose all that weight? Hahahaa
Me: I think I can kua...
I think I know what she'll ask next..
EV: So... since you might get the sagging skin, maybe you can donate some to me?
Me: (O__o)
Me: Why? You want me to feel your pain as well???
EV: Yeah!! Since I need some skin to graft my burn, and you have extra skin, why not??
I gave it some thought. True, EV may need to undergo skin grafting to reduce her scarring. She's rather worried about her wound now.
Me: How can??? I'm AB bloodtype. I can only donate to same blood type. :D
EV: Eh?? You are AB-ar? Cehh.. Cannot donate to me-la
EV: **cries** How?? How??
Poor EV. She's still in a lot of pain. Her wound is "weeping", i.e. water is seeping through and it is healing slowly. Despite all that, she still has her sense of humour. :-)
It has been 4 weeks since her accident. Please pray for her speedy recovery.

Yep! It's a lot and I'm doing all I can to lose it! That means a lot of cardio, strength training for upper and lower parts of my body so that I burn more calories and also tone my muscle gradually. The last thing I want to have is sagging skin after losing a lot of weight. To be realistic, I believe if I can lose up to 10kg by the end of the year, it'll be fantastic!!So, she messaged me...

I'm Getting There... Slowly...
It has been a while since I've posted something.
Yea, it has been pretty hectic around here. Two things dominate my life now - Work and Exercise.
Notice that "Exercise" is a bigger part of my life now ever since I started working out at the gym. It is a commitment I intend to keep for a long time to come.
Anyway, I have to work out about 3-4 times a week, for about 2 hours per session. That makes it 4 x 2 = 8 hrs per week, i.e. 1 "full" work day. Yep, that's why they call it Working Out.
My friends started to quiz me about why the sudden decision to work out. To them, me + gym do not equate. I was fairly active in my younger days playing basketball and badminton but I was never fit.
I have been fat all my life, other than the fact that I was a small baby at birth.
Anyway, the concerns about my health is what stirred me to go and join a place where I can torture myself or pay someone to help torture myself. Besides that, my little sis plans to get married next year and we can't look so different - She's thin, I'm fat.
One particular friend does not believe in the exercise approach and goes for the softer way of dieting.
Sure, that helps for a while, but once you stop or your meal replacement product goes EOL or Gawd-forbid the Company which makes your meal replacement product goes bust or etc..., you're back to square one. You pack on the pounds and worse still, the effect becomes worse, i.e. you become fatter! Why so? Because you're not making your body burn calories efficiently, you're just "starving" your body to pscyhe it to lose weight. Does that change your metabolic rate?? That answer is no....
How about those slimming places?
I shun such places. I've heard horror stories of such places using techniques and equipments to "melt your fat" but that's what it does only - MELT FAT. If you continue to eat, you'll still add on pounds. Besides that, when you first go to such places, you'll lose your water content first. The harder stage is when you've got fat to burn. That's why these slimming places will wrap you, chuck you in the steam/sauna to make you sweat it all out. After that, they massage you and voila, you'll lose your 10kg or $$ back guarantee.
I've heard otherwise...
One ex-colleague has gone from one slimming place to another, only to find that it is the same process and worse still, some people at these places make fun of you behind your back. Wait until those svelte beauties have 2 kids and hit 40... ** rolls eyes **
I for one, still believe in the straight and narrow path of proper diet and plenty of exercise. If you want good examples or role models, have a look at Demi Moore or Madonna. Both women look hotter than the Lindsay Lohans and Britney Spears now.
So, is the regiment helping? YES!! DEFINITELY!!!
I feel better after just starting 2.5 weeks back. I don't get headaches in the morning, my head is clearer, I have more energy during the day (before I exercise) and I'm starting to feel good about myself. The love handles around my waist has somewhat reduced a little but I've got a long road to go.
How much do I need to lose? 40kg in 1 year's time... (0___o)
Yep! It's a lot and I'm doing all I can to lose it! That means a lot of cardio, strength training for upper and lower parts of my body so that I burn more calories and also tone my muscle gradually. The last thing I want to have is sagging skin after losing a lot of weight. To be realistic, I believe if I can lose up to 10kg by the end of the year, it'll be fantastic!!
With each step I take to intensify my training and now that I'm starting to see that my body is getting stronger, I'm gaining more confidence. Confidence that I will be able to achieve my goal.
There is no greater joy than seeing your fats turn into strong muscle. I do not intend to be super muscular, I think that's for the guys but I do want to look toned and feel strong.
To those of you out there who still trust on the diet thingy, it will help to a certain extent, but nothing will help you keep the pounds off than good 'ol hard work of exercise. That's the honest truth.
Pssstt... If you're wondering how much weight I've lost so far.. I think I've dropped a couple of kg.. Time to celebrate.... with a kiwi fruit! :)

Dog Tired...
Just got back from the gym a couple of hours ago.
I had a lot of energy but after I took my shower and sat down to read my blogs and play with Facebook, I'm now really really tired.
My workout was about 1.5 hrs today. About 30mins of cardio and about 1hr of strength training.
My bones are aching but I feel good. My head doesn't feel very stuffy and I have more energy now.
However, I've got to watch my right knee as it is starting to hurt. I feel that it is weak. Darn the years of driving automatic transmission cars but we can't help it because of the fxxking jams around KL.
I've been advised to increase my workout from 1hr to 2hrs!! That means I'll spend about nearly a full-working day (if you work 8hrs) at the gym. Whoa..... Intense but it is a worthwhile investment. Basically, I'm envisioning myself being more fit (ala The Secret style-y)
I'm dog-tired... I need to sleep.

300 Ab Crunches???
Hmmm... Am feeling very guilty at this moment since I did not go to the gym today as planned. -___-
I was supposed to go for an early session at 6pm but got to work late, had many things to do, hence have to cancel my appointment. -___-
When 7pm came around, I was so freakin' hungry and realized that I forgot to take something at 4pm so that I can go exercise at 7pm. -___-
Anyway, I just had an awful dinner at Genki Sushi, KLCC. I don't think I can ever eat there again.. yuck! -___-
My stomach is acting up for I don't know what freakin' reason. -___-
Yes.. I'm guilty and pissed now.
Anyway, my B2 (Basic 2) training on Saturday evening was pretty ok. I learned a few more techniques on doing some abdominal crunches, a.k.a Ab Crunches. With the right technique, I felt the pull on my abdominal muscles and managed to do 100 reps. My trainer tells me that she had a client who can do 300.
I went... (0____O)
I said, "I think I'm a little bit far from that for now." **smirk**
Trainer: **No response**
Aiya!! *slaps forehead*
Oh well, at least Alvin gave some encouragement about me working out in the gym. Thanks!!
Meanwhile, I'll have to organize my photos a little bit before I post something about my latest trip to Thailand to meet a client last Friday. It should be a little fun.
I missed out on the latest Blogathon but managed to pledge some $$$ to Kelwin before time ran out. We still have 48 hours to pledge. ;-) Do your bit for charity!!!!
Anyway, for more info, visit 5xMom's site. :P
