A small site about someone who has a habit of writing long-winded essays about a gazzillion things from software engineering/methodology to food and culture. It tends to be a little hyper and hence, sometimes, we chase our own little "tails".

Upgrade Exercise - Phase 2: 90% Completed
Finally.. The HDD was installed in the laptop. It took me a while to get the pin slotted on the HDD connector pins as I "forgot" that I had to swap it from the old HDD to the new one. Kekeke...
As you can see, I was still trying to install some photo-editing software but my DVD-drive is acting a bit funky and so, couldn't get the installer to run off the DVD properly. Grrrr...
So, that leads me to the next part. Now that I've upgraded my laptop, I suddenly heard a loud whirring noise from the fan... which means, I still need to clean the internals of this laptop!!!
Reading the manuals and some sites, it will not be an easy feat. Not only that, I've got to get a can of compressed air to really clear all that dust and grime accumulated for the last 5 yrs.. :P
I'm tired....

Upgrade Exercise - Phase 1 Completed
*Phew*...
Not that the laptop upgrading exercise was so hard to do but I always feel a tinge of excitement and fear whenever I touch my PCs or laptops. Hence, I often break out in a cold sweat for the first 2 minutes or so. :P
I finally got my new 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD under budget. I spent RM352 for both pieces of hardware - which is great!! I had expected to pay > RM400 as it was hard to get a notebook IDE HDD these days as most of the notebook HDD sold are SATA.
Anyway, the easy part is done. The next task on my list is to change my hard disk and re-install all the stuff I had.
I think I will do that another day, as I've got to compile the updates and drivers.. *headache*

Will Be Quiet For a Wee Bit...
Hi all!
My little blog will be quiet for a while until I sort out some issues with my laptop's HDD (hard disk drive). It's currently making some funky "knocking" noises after a certain amount of time and so, am doing the necessary backup just in case something happens. Aside from that, I'll be upgrading the HDD from 120GB to 500GB... since I may need to replace the HDD.
So, while that takes place, I'll be looking at upgrading my laptop's RAM as well from 1GB to 2GB. It isn't much but that's all my little Dell Inspiron 6000 can take.
The estimated amount of $$ I may need to fork out is RM400 for the parts. Labour cost is RM0 as I'll be doing the upgrade myself.
I am tempted to upgrade to Windows 7 but I don't want to fork out the additional $$ for the software.. I've been playing around with the idea of a mini portable (Mac, Windows, Linux???)
Anyway, I'm wondering if I can wait until PC Fair hits KL in order to get the hardware... Hmmm...

Early Christmas Present
First of all, my hearts and prayers go out to the people and their families who were affected by this morning's landslide at Bukit Antarabangsa. May God watch over you during this hour of need. It just amazes me that 15 years on, we have not learnt our lesson about hillside development.
Anyway, on a slightly happier note; I got my AIPO Dry Cabinet this morning! Yippee!!!
Don't worry, the box will be recycled. Should Rusty be naughty, he will be shipped off to Obedience School! :-P
I had my eye on this cabinet ever since I got my camera in October. After some enquiries and research, I decided that I would get this cabinet. I was thinking of using a Lock-n-Lock box with some Thirsty Hippo and silica gel to store my camera. However, being the lazybum that I am, I know that I will forget to change the Thirsty Hippo and silica gel after a few months. **sheepish grin**
I was very lucky to have chatted with my friend online about this cabinet a few days back and found out that he was going to buy some cabinets in bulk with his other friends. He convinced me that the 48 litre was quite a worthwhile buy even though I don't have much gears to store for now. So, I managed to get my box with some discount!! \(^.^)/
The cabinet comes with a small LCD window which will indicate the humidity and temperature of the air within the box. Yes, the dry box does come with a power cord. It is also important to note that the box needs to sit in a well ventilated room too.
It sure looks small and cute...
After I got the package, I noticed that the cabinet is not very large. From the picture above, you can tell that the box is about 1 sq ft in width. Besides my gears, I can also store my other important documents such as my certificates too.
Yeah, I know it's a bit extravagant to get myself an early Christmas present but this will be a gift which will last a looong time.

The Reveal....
LOL! Nothing fancy here... Just wanted to post a couple of pics of what my "new" toy was. (^____^)
This is the top view of the box of the toy. Yep, it pretty much says it!
Just a sort of "perspective" look of what the toy is. See if you can guess it? :-P
It is probably one of the best buys of 2008. It really is helping me manage my otherwise boring but yet busy life.
Have a great weekend folks!

Photos from My New Toy
I just managed to upload some photos from my "new" toy (I've had it for nearly 3 weeks now) but I've yet to reveal what my "new" toy is... (^____^)
So, to whet your appetite, I've put up some photos taken by my new toy. The quality isn't great as it's just a 3MP and I'm basically relying on software rather than equipment for my shots. I'm not used to it yet and so, most of my shots are still very jerky and unclear.

Anyway, I heard that there's a seminar or something to encourage more female photographers to pick up photography as a hobby? Can someone care to enlighten me on this? Will be looking forward to National Geographic's series on The Genius Of Photography airing every Saturday for 6 weeks (yea!). Anyone interested in this hobby should watch it.
Have a great weekend folks!!

Mobile Blogging
This entry is not about promoting the latest tool or VAS (Value Added Service) from the telco but my 1st attempt at blogging from my new "toy".
Its barely a week old and I'm putting the device thru its paces...
Anyway, I'll write more later as I'm pretty hungry after a reasonably good workout at the gym tonite.
Cheers!!

Diverted Attention?
I was wondering about the difference between "divert" and "digress".
Looked up dictionary.com and got the following:
Digress (verb)
- to deviate or wander away from the main topic or purpose in speaking or writing; depart from the principal line of argument, plot, study, etc.
Divert (verb)
Hence, I chose the title accordingly since I felt that I was being distracted from work. (^ ^)
Anyway, found this little quiz about being either a Mac or PC at Blogthings.
This is my result...

Need Hardware Lists from Lowyat?
I'd guess by now, everybody knows that Lowyat is the "heaven" for us geeks - from M'sia and abroad.
(OMG... It even has an entry on Wikipedia!!)
I've got colleagues in UK who are dying to drop by M'sia just to visit this place. LOL!!
Anyway, for all of you out there who recall that back in the day, the Lowyat.net site used to host price-lists from most of the big shops, including those which were "scanned" from hardcopy. However, these scanned price-lists were removed after a while and I'm not sure why it was done so.
Have fun salivating over what your next purchase would be!!
BTW, PC Fair is coming to KL in April.. BE PREPARED!!!
