Esquire Goodness...

Esquire Kitchen is pretty much an institution in KL. One of my earliest memories of it was having dinner with my family when I was three or four years old at the one of the oldest restaurants situated in Sungai Wang.

Over the past 30-odd years of my life, the food has remained pretty much the same, except for a few new additions. The decor has changed slightly but the main theme of the restaurant still remained the same.

Ninjas Sell Burgers?

I'm finally getting around to this post about one of my favourite burgers...

Even Gundam loves these burgers...

Kuching Hawker Food

I certainly enjoyed the hawker food in Kuching.

In fact, my most favourite food is Kuching Laksa. Kuching Laksa is very different from the curry laksa served in KL. The main difference is that it has prawns and egg slices served with it.

The bee hoon noodles are also a bit thicker than your regular bee hoon. Absolutely delicious...

Sunset

Sunset at the beach was really a relaxing experience. The beach was quiet and empty.

R&R @ Damai Puri Resort

Damai Puri resort is a beach side resort just about 45-minutes drive out of Kuching.

IMG_5774_

It is a bit isolated but the beach is just amazing! I've been here previously but didn't manage to take photos of the beach then.

Cat City... Meow! Meow!

I finally got around to editing some of my holiday photos.

Somehow, I have this nagging feeling that I should have taken more photos than necessary. *sigh*... I'd guess I'm still quite "frugal" when it comes to my photography. Nevertheless, it was a good experience to learn what it is like to lug all my gear around.

Recharged and Rejuvenated...

Am back at work.

However, I can't help but feel physically tired but mentally recharged and rejuvenated now.

I miss the lovely views and the cool breeze...

Some R&R

Finally... I'm going to get some R&R. It has been a while since I went on a trip anywhere!

Oh well, I hope to be able to post something while I'm gone. :)

P/S: I hope to survive this trip as I'll be traveling with EV...

I Can't Get Justin Bieber Out Of My Head!!!

Ok ok.. I'm too old to go lusting over some small boy but... I've been suffering from having to listen to Justin Bieber's song - "Baby" in my head for the past few weeks.

It is a catchy song but you know that there are a category of songs which just irritate you to the point that you like it? Well, this is just one of those songs.

Anyway, when I first heard the song, I thought it was a girl singing but turns out to be a young lad of 16. So, I pictured in my head an image of a boy who pretty much had the same class of looks like Aaron Carter (back in the day).

When I saw the video... I didn't know what to say... Is it a boy/girl or girlish boy or boyish girl? LOL!!

Enjoy the video. I present to you the Evil song "Baby"... You can't get it out of your head. :P

Enjoy your Friday!

Oh.. Do remember to submit your taxes and make any payment before 11pm as the Tax E-Payment system shuts down by then... :P

Dr. KS Wong Visits @ Delicious, BVII

Ahh.... It is good to be back!

Yes... This blog has been pretty silent lately due to a lot of stuff going on around me. Work has been ok but I've been preoccupied with "helping friends with their farms/cafe"... and also "cooking/farming" at my own "cafe/farm" too. Kekeke...

It's coming to the end of April and yes... It's that DREADED time of the year again. Submitting your income taxes and HOPING (and PRAYING) that you don't have to pay a huge sum back to the government.

Just a tip... Do submit your stuff before 11pm, because if you have to pay, the e-payment system shuts down at 11pm.

Ok.. Enough about such depressing items.

Last month, a very good friend of mine dropped by KL for a visit. As usual, it was a last minute thing and I had to scramble to schedule a lunch gathering with the gang.

Meeting @ Noon...

I seem to have stumbled upon an afternoon meeting. I didn't mean to interrupt it...

IMG_5271_

Haha! It is a rare sight to see both Snoopy (on the right) & Rusty (on the left) sun-bathing so close to each other. Usually Snoopy will lean against the wall to catch the rays, while Rusty will be rolling around on the grass.

Yes.... The brown spots you see were contributed by both dogs'..... urine! Their urine kills our grass. So, there are brown spots all over the garden.

Anyway, ever since the weather has gotten too hot or has been raining too often, both dogs don't sunbathe on the grass. They sit on the porch to catch the rays.

Makes you wish that you can do something fun for the rest of Friday, huh?

Have a good one folks!

P/S: Docs' appointment went pretty well. One doctor was happy with my progress, while the other was not happy that my bp shot up a little bit. Got to visit one of them again next month... *sigh*

Morning Has Broken

If you're an old fart like I am, you'll probably would have heard this song, "Morning Has Broken" by Cat Stevens (yes, the dude who sang "Cat's In The Cradle"...)

IMG_5493_

Doesn't this picture evoke that kind of feeling?

I took this early in the morning when there were relatively fewer cars around my neighbourhood. It happened to be a quiet morning.

I think some of the neighbour's maid were outside sweeping and was probably thinking why this crazy person was standing in the middle of the road, taking a photo. :-)

Anyway, this photo is just one of the few which I took to study photography composition. Details are in my flickr page.

Anxiously Waiting...

IMG_5357_

How quickly the weekend has gone by. I had a great time over the weekend taking lots of photos and catching up with some old friends. Like Rusty, I'm waiting for Friday to come along again.

However, I'm a bit anxious as I've got a follow-up appointment with the doctors this Saturday. I've been "naughty" and good at times with my regiment but overall, pretty strict with myself.

I've been feeling a bit lousy for the last few days due to my meds. It's giving me some problems again.

Aside from that, I've been a bit too aggressive with my gym exercises that I pulled my hamstring last week. So, couple that with my meds side-effects and I had a pretty gloomy Monday. However, with some rest and stretching, I'm much better and can resume my gym tomorrow. ;-)

Being active is good as I now have more energy and am able to do more stuff. A great side-effect is the weight-loss (though slow) and better muscle tone/strength from all that exercising. I'd guess now that I'm active with my gym, I feel lousy if I don't hit the gym more than twice in a week.

So, what are you folks anxiously waiting for? Being the tax month, I think you're anxious to get it done soon, eh?

Watcha' lookin' at?

IMG_5501_

Sometimes, you just wish you could give the "finger" when people just stare at you, right? :P

I caught a picture of this cat while waiting for my mom and aunt finish their shopping at the PJ Section 14 wet market.

This cat is certainly not afraid of humans and in fact, looks kind of annoyed with me. Perhaps, it doesn't like my camera. Somehow, cats always have this high and mighty look...

Japanese Food Fired Up @ Sushi Zen, Gardens MidValley

Another post on food... Haha!

Actually, I wanted to post up this picture I took while having lunch at Sushi Zen, Gardens Midvalley.

IMG_5375_

We happened to sit at the counter for lunch and had a good view of the kitchen. So, we could watch all the food that were prepared for all the customers.

It's not everyday that you get to see a blowtorch in action. The dish prepared was probably grilled salmon tataki or grilled cod roe on salmon sushi which is delicious.

Anyway, we ordered some boring stuff...

IMG_5377_

Yasai tempura....

IMG_5376_

Unagi don...

Both were absolutely delicious. Anyway, Sushi Zen is just another name for the Sushi Zanmai franchise and so, the food was expected to be of good quality at a reasonable price.

Yum... It certainly prepared me for the "Mad Hatter's Tea" later that day. :-)

Craving for Bi Bim Bap

I've been pretty much silent lately in my blog as I've been preoccupied with other stuff.

Lately, I've been hitting the gym at least 4 times a week and ever since I've caught up with my old personal trainer, I've been working out even harder during my sessions.

So, between exercising, coming home to have a quick bite, playing with my nieces & dogs while catching up with my TV shows, I barely have enough time to blog. :-(

Anyway, I'll have to readjust my schedule a bit as I'll find some time to write.

This post is a little outdated as I've been meaning to blog about some of my favourite Korean dishes. One of it is the famous Bi Bim Bap.

At first I was turned off by the dish because the sauce was red which looked like kim chi but it turns out to be hot bean paste which doesn't have the sour taste of kim chi. However, once I had a taste of it, I can't seem to get enough of it!

IMG_4759_

The last Bi Bim Bap I tried was at Ko Hyang Korean Country Delights at Mid Valley Gardens. I've blogged about this little cafe before where I've tried their Bulbogi Beef. It turns out that they make a pretty good Bi Bim Bap too.

Bi Bim Bap is a pretty well-balanced dish with a lot of vegetables accompanying the rice. It is usually topped off with an egg which is cooked sunny-side up.

To eat it, you just stir everything in the bowl together. In some variations, the bowl is a hot stone which heats the rice and the ingredients through.

This version is done in the stainless steel bowl and the dish is like a cross between mixed rice with a slightly cold salad.

Personally, I prefer the hot stone bowl version as it just heats up the hot bean paste and rice making it feel like a claypot rice dish.

IMG_4761_

As usual, there were some side dishes which came long with the main dish. I didn't quite like the fried anchovies as it was a bit too salty for me. However, I do like a bit of kim chi even though it tends to be too sour for my taste.

Do give it a try, you might just love it... ;-)

Fishing...

IMG_4140_

There are days when you wish you can get away to "fish". In other words, we wish to just take some time off to relax....

Anyway, Friday is fast approaching and I'd guess everyone is just waiting for the weekend to begin!

Hope that everyone will have a great weekend ahead... (^.^)

Drowning in Affogato @ Haagen-Daz

If you enjoy coffee and ice-cream, you may want to try an affogato, which means "drowned" in Italian.

IMG_4792_

I tried a version of affogato during my student days back in Melbourne, where there was a cafe in David Jones which had a wonderful version of 2 full scoops of vanilla ice-cream accompanied with a small cup of espresso, chocolate or mocha.

To drink the affogato, you just simply pour your espresso into the cup filled with vanilla ice-cream and sip your coffee. You don't add any sugar, milk or cream as the ice-cream has all the sugar and cream.

IMG_4794_

Unfortunately, I can't take coffee as the caffeine gives me some problems and so, I didn't get to taste this yummy treat from Haagen Daz.

However, it is such a pretty thing to photograph... :-)

1, 2, 3, 4

Hello all!!!

Yes.. I've been rather quiet lately. I've been going to the gym lately and when I get home, I'm usually quite tired to blog or edit my photos.

Anyway, I heard this song on the radio and it has stuck in my head ever since. Such a lovely song, I think I would like to dedicate it to you all!!

P/S: Wait for the end of the song.. It's so sweet...

CNY Over, A Dry Spell of Holidays Until May...

Feeling awfully tired as I've just gotten back from the gym.

Yes, the CNY holidays are over.... Time to get back to work and other stuff. Less partying and etc...

Time to hit the gym to lose those extra kilos gained over the 15-day celebration. Hehehe.. :P

However, if you have been "behaving" yourself, you don't have to feel all that guilty about indulging a little during the CNY festivities, right?

Meanwhile, I'd guess everyone will be working hard in the next 2 months as there isn't that many public holidays unless you happen to be in Sabah/Sarawak for Good Friday.

Ok.. So, hope everyone will have a smooth sailing Year of the Tiger... *ROAARR*
